The Stranger

One day my little sister and I were at the park. It was a cold, foggy day. I didn’t want to go but I had promised I would take her. I bundled her up in her warmest jacket and we walked to the park closest to our house. It was deserted which was unusual because there was always someone else there.

My sister started playing a pretend game so I sat on the wooden bench and began to read my book. About 5 minutes later I noticed that the same black car had passed about 3 times. I thought that the person was lost or something so I didn’t think much of it. But then the car had pulled up to the opposite side of the park we were on and just stayed there. The car was a black Audi with tinted windows. I closed my book and stood up to talk to my sister, and I noticed that the man had gotten out of his car. He was wearing a black trench coat and a baseball cap.

My senses told me to leave right away, so I told my sister to hurry up. She said she was in the middle of running from pirates so she needed a couple more minutes. I looked over my shoulder and saw the man walking towards us; you could hear him walking through the brown leaves as they crunched. I grabbed my sister and started walking. She was yelling at me but I didn’t care I started to pick up my pace. I looked back and he picked up his pace as well. My instincts kicked in, I swooped up my sister and began to run. My hair was blowing in the wind all in my face and in my mouth. My sister had kept asking what was happening but I couldn’t answer her because I was concentrating on my running. I started to hear another set of foot steps behind me, my sister asked why the man was running too. I ran my fastest up our step hill, almost falling as I tripped on the curb. Finally I had reached our front door. The crisp cool air was hard to inhale after I ran. I fumbled through my bag looking for my keys. He was catching up. I dumped all the contents of my bag on the porch. As soon as I found the cold silver of the key I struggled to get it in the keyhole. As soon as the door flung open I picked my sister up and ran in the door locking it behind me. I placed her on the couch and tried to catch my breath. She asked what had happened. I kissed her on the forehead and said “Nothing, everything will be ok.”
